Tips for Your Next Summer Party

As we are in the winter season, now is the time to be thinking two to three seasons ahead in the planning and designing of the food, beverage and décor for forthcoming events such as events hosted in St. Martin (more on that here –

A warm afternoon presented itself and Boris Van Dyck, owner of ICE BOX BAR SERVICE, took the opportunity to showcase some of his Spring and Summer 2010 cocktails to a few of his clients.

The location for tasting: the second floor piazza of his parent’s turn of the (20th) century home, nestled one street back from Charleston’s Murray Boulevard on South Battery.  From the piazza, you can see Charleston Harbor and catch the breezes.  This is so vital to our civilization here in Charleston.  Before the invention of air conditioning, just less than 75 years ago, Charlestonians used their piazzas to deal with the exhausting heat of the summer.

This piazza is exceptional as it is deep and offers the view of the rose garden and our historic harbor.

Accented by a venerable spread of hors d’oeuvres prepared by his sister Mayhe, a former United Nations associate, foodie, and now professor of Spanish at the College of Charleston, Boris presented a host of cocktails and garnishes truly looking for input and suggestions.

Being able to be served a multiple of drinks, each with a different style, flavor, and various liquors used, is a craft in its’ own right.  You just cannot drink all of each one, regardless of how much you enjoy them!

Do Air Purifiers Really Work? showing woman sleeping in near an IQair air purifier

There are several myths about air purifiers, but by reading the right Air Purifier Reviews you will come to the conclusion that having them is not a bad idea at all!!

Myth 1: Air purifiers will eliminate the need to ever dust again.

A common misunderstanding is thinking that air purifiers will lift the dust off the surfaces of your furniture so that you will never have to dust again. If that were to be the case, then the fan in an air purifier would be so strong (let alone noisy!) that it would create a dust storm in your house. Exactly the opposite of what any allergy sufferer might want, so you’ll still going to need a good HEPA vacuum cleaner and microfiber dust cloth to dust your furniture and floors.

Myth 2: If you have allergies, air purifiers are a silver bullet and you will not have to do anything else.
An air purifier is only part of your allergy control program. The problem is that some allergens like pollen are heavy, and fall to the floor or furniture before an air purifier has time to catch them. Some remedial actions require clean up and rearranging your home environment to be more allergy friendly; others require the use of allergy relief products, such as a steam cleaner for chemical free cleaning, washing sheets in hot water above 140º or a dehumidifier to lower humidity control mold and dust mite growth.
